Adamawa State Government Introduces Free Cervical Cancer Vaccines for Women

The Adamawa State Government has introduced a free cervical cancer vaccine available for women.

The Adamawa State Primary Health Care Development Agency (ASPHCDA) announced the news during a meeting with healthcare partners in the state capital, Yola, on Tuesday.

The Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine has been launched for routine immunisation, in conjunction with the routine immunisation tentatively scheduled for September 25–29, 2023.

Dr Suleiman Bashir, Executive Chairman of the ASPHCDA, stated that the HPV vaccination will take place over the course of five days in September at strategic locations around the state.

He stated that the HPV vaccination provides the greatest degree of protection if administered to girls between the ages of nine and fifteen years before they are exposed to the virus, but that women beyond the age of 14 will need to be screened first.

He stated that cervical cancer is the most prevalent cancer in women and a leading cause of death and that it has no cure; however, it could possibly be prevented by taking timely measures, such as getting vaccinated.

He guaranteed that the vaccine is safe, free, as well as effective and that it is the most economical means for preventing women from cervical cancer.

Dr. Suleiman recommended everyone go to the nearest accessible facility as soon as the vaccine kicked off, most particularly girls.
